Vadodara youth provides meals to homeless people

“During a visit to SSG I saw a woman aged around 61 years was dragging herself and that shook me from inside. Since then I decide to help such people and make it a aim in life.”

Nirav Thakkar, a 33-year-old resident of Vadodara witnessed was volunteering during lockdown along with many people to the migrants and the patients admitted in government hospitals. After watching people’s situations he decided to help them and for the last six months, he has been providing free meals to homeless people on footpaths. He also started a kitchen ‘Jala Rasodu’ specially to prepare food for them. He feeds 50 such people living in different areas of the city and also provides hygiene products for their personal hygiene. “I also provide them a kit containing things like hair oil, body lotion, shampoo, brush looking after their personal hygiene,” said Thakkar.

 

Starting from Gotri every day he feeds people living under Harinagar Bridge, around the railway station, in areas like SSG Hospital, Kamatibaug. He said without family these people are living a lonely life and need care. He often posts pictures of them on social media and successfully united around 10 persons with their families. 

 

Nirav Thakkar is into the property business and spends his personal saving on this social work. He said that he will be continuing this social work for a lifetime. His group also provides transportation for homeless people to the hospitals in case of any health issues.
