Gujarat is declared a dry state, but with a video of drunk men dancing in Surat on Ganesh Chaturthi going viral, the title of being a ‘dry state’ is in question.
Illegal liquor being brought into the state is no new news, but with the implementation of stricter rules, people are finding creative ways to ferry in liquor to the state. A truck carrying 2998 bottles worth 11.99 lakh amidst vegetable and fruit crates was seized by State Vigilance near Dumad Chowkdi.
The truck that crossed in to Gujarat from Rajasthan, passed over Chaani Police Station and was moving toward Dumad Chowkdi when the State Vigilance Team stopped it based on Intelligence. Along with 255 boxes of alcohol, around 17.12 lakh of stock was also caught.
The driver and cleaner who were caught revealed that the material belonged to Rajasthan’s Bhagwanlal Dangi Bapu and the alcohol was supposed to be delivered to four people in Vadodara.
The Police are currently in search of the consignor and the consignee.
