Vishwamitri was nearing danger levels, respite for Barodians as rains stop

After the heavy rains on Sunday, the Vishwamitri river’s level started increasing again nearing the danger mark. However, it was a relief for the city as the rains stopped since Monday morning. Alert has been issued for people living near the river as the level reached 21 feet in the morning when water was released from the Ajwa lake at 11 pm.

The level of Vishwamitri river will not exceed 23-24 feet as the water is being discharged in a planned manner from Ajwa Sarovar into the river by Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan (VMSS). As a result, the flood crisis will be averted from the city, but people living nearby have been asked to be careful.

The Chief Fire Officer of the fire brigade, Parth Brahmbhatt said that as per the rules, water is stored up to 212.50 feet above the surface of the lake on 31st August. At 10 a.m, the surface of the lake was 212.45 feet, whereas the water level of Pratap Sarovar is 227.90 feet. The water of Pratap Sarovar will be brought to 212.50 feet in Ajwa Sarovar and the rest of it will be released into the Vishwamitri river.

5620 cusecs of water were released from Ajwa Sarovar into Vishwamitri at night. As a result, the level of Vishwamitri will reach 23 to 24 feet by noon, which shall not be a concern for the people of Vadodara. In case it rains today in the catchment area of ​​Ajwa Sarovar, the situation of the Vishwamitri river may worsen. but most likely scattered showers are expected with clouds remaining open. The system has been kept on alert to deal with any situation.
