Vadodara has witnessed many incidents of accidents and even deaths due to cattle menace on city roads. With an aim to make the city cattle-free, a mega campaign will be started by the VMSS teams in the coming days. A joint meeting attended by MP, MLA’s, Municipal Commissioner, Police Commissioner, Collector, Standing Committee Chairman, and other officials was held to discuss the plan of action.
“As per a survey around 2000 families are living in Vadodara keeping 19 to 20,000 cattle with them. In the meeting, we decided to work jointly to make the city cattle menace free. In the next 30 days, we have set the target for RFID tagging of cattle left and urged the keepers to complete. Police and VMSS teams will jointly work to stop the cattle from roaming freely on roads. Five teams will be working day and night in shifts for the work, ” said Keyur Rokadia Mayor Vadodara.
He added that the caught cattle will be shifted to Panjrapole. Sometimes owners don’t turn up to claim the cattle, so they increase the amount to Rs.3000 one-time payment for such animals. Collector has assigned land at Khatamba, Jambuva, Karodiya, and Chhani for cattle and they will make arrangements to use the areas. He also said that in case of negligence, attack, and loss of life reported due to cattle, police can take action as per rules including PASA to the responsible.
A meeting of cattle keepers was called by the VMSS to listen to their queries and implement the campaign effectively. Mayor said that they have set a target of 15 days to make Vadodara cattle menace free but all will be decided after the meeting with cattle keepers.
