Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) Awas Yojana and Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) housing scheme, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has constructed more than 3,000 houses in the Kishanwadi area. In the 99 blocks, more than ten thousand people live there and are facing various problems like – lack of water, drainage, and sanitation, for many years. Despite constant representations, the issue hasn’t been solved yet.
Residents are distraught with the dilapidated conditions of their houses and have reportedly been injured several times due to flaky ceiling and during the monsoons, the large cracks in the ceiling cause water dripping inside the house. In one of the incidents, Ashaben was injured after a ceiling crust fell inside her room with a big boom. An ambulance was called and she was rushed to SSG hospital immediately. The contractor and corporation faced an ire of residents and have been allegedly accused of corruption and using low-quality material for the construction.
Shiv Sena activist, led by spokesperson Tejas Brahmbhatt visited the area today to understand the situation. They expressed quite an outrage against the contractor and corporation. They also demanded an immediate resolution of the problem and threatened to protest in a Gandhian way. The beneficiaries have also demanded proper cleaning and repairing of their houses.
